UCLA Health Nursing Professional Development Specialist - Emergency Department Population - Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California

Description

The Nursing Professional Development Practitioner/Specialist (NPDS), will support and oversee academic practice partnerships, nursing and unlicensed staff orientation, nurse residency, role development, professional governance, continuing education units, certification, patient education, and professional development. The NPDS oversees required education, competency, training, and professional development for nursing staff. The role encompasses the delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional/leadership development, policies, activities, assessment tools, and system; promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence based nursing practice and clinical inquiry; collaborates with nursing leadership (Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nursing Professional Development Specialists) to deliver educational programs and secure resources based on needs assessments and adult learning theory; and meets the diverse requirements of the nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization/health system.

Generic Scope: Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, procedures, processes, and resources. Functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Custom Scope: Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or overseas the implementation of new programs.

Environment: will be healthcare - hospital, clinical, classroom settings or similar environment as the role requires.

*Position can be filled as CNE3 if candidate is completing educational requirement

Salary Range: $124,600 to $289,400 Annually (budget = $135,720 - $197,775 depending on paid professional experience)

Qualifications

  • Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association - required

  • CA RN License - required

  • Certified within area of specialty - preferred

  • Masters in Nursing Education or MSN with post certificate in Nursing Education - required

  • 3 years of recent acute care experience
