Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of functions associated with guest relations and implementing and monitoring cultural and recreational programming at the Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica Beach or other venues.

Representative Duties

Assists in implementing, monitoring, and promoting recreational and cultural programs and activities for the general public and target populations within the community.

Implements guest service standards and ensures the delivery of high level customer service to all guests.

Assists guests, provides information and referrals to guests and monitors property.

Leads and provides mentoring and guidance to program participants. Assists with activity registration, guest reservations and check-in, which includes parking.

Oversees public use of beach recreation amenities at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Enforces program policies, rules and regulations.

Conducts daily inspections of the Annenberg Community Beach House amenities. Identifies on-going maintenance needs. Opens, inspects and secures program facilities. Assists in the preparation, set-up, maintenance and security for Beach House programs and activities.

Assists in preparing and distributing program and activity publicity, including news releases, flyers pamphlets and brochures. May provide public information and community outreach at various venues in the community.

Assists in maintaining records which includes program participation levels.

Conducts program satisfaction surveys with guests. Collects and tabulates survey material and prepares related reports.

Administers basic first aid and completes appropriate Risk Management forms, as required.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of:

Effective guest relations, customer service and conflict resolution techniques.

Principles and practices of recreational and cultural programming .

Basic principles of group management and child development.

Use of recreational and/or audiovisual equipment and supplies.

First aid methods and safety practices related to recreational programs.

Outdoor safety practices for sun and wind protection and for water safety.

Effective training techniques.

Ability to:

Monitor participation, track attendance and prepare and maintain basic records.

Effectively communicate and enforce program policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Interact and communicate effectively with guests, program participants, and/or City staff in a professional manner.

Learn and implement program-specific computer software systems.

Effectively resolve conflicts.

Follow oral and written instructions.

Provide basic first aid and CPR.

Provide effective customer service.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.

Skill in:

Planning, modifying and conducting recreational and cultural activities.

Dealing with guests, program participants, co-workers and supervisors in a cooperative, constructive and supportive manner.

Reading, writing and communicating at an appropriate level.

Using basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and desktop publishing applications.

Working effectively with persons from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds.

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation from high school or the equivalent. One year of recent, paid or volunteer work experience directly related to the recreational or cultural programs and services, involving public contact. Experience in the area of youth education, sports or recreation is desirable.

Bilingual skills may be required, dependent upon assignment.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid Red Cross or national/state accredited certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certificate within one month of date of hire.
