Job Information

Amazon Software Development Engineer, Perimeter Protection (Anti-DDoS) in Santa Clara, California

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

AWS Shield protects customer applications and AWS services against external threats, like vulnerability exploitation, bad bots, and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Customers like Netflix, Dow Jones, Mapbox, Pearson, Rovio, and Amazon.com can focus on their own application development knowing that their application is protected by AWS Shield.

Our core competency is automating the detection and mitigation of complex, large-scale security threats. The number of attacks mitigated by AWS has more than doubled year-over-year while our operational burden has declined. When we identify a solution to a common issue, we prioritize improvements that detect and mitigate the problem safely and consistently, allowing our engineers to focus on the next big problem.

In this role, you will be involved in building robust, well-architected systems to protect and defend the AWS network, services and it's customers from network layer threats. You will be developing performant and highly scalable microservices to comprehensively protect applications on AWS against external threats. This includes new features and services that improve our intelligent attack detection, mitigation and event reporting.

A day in the life

As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will take ownership over the software design, documentation, development, engineering approach, delivery, and support of systems built natively in AWS. In this role you will collaborate with leaders, work backward from customers, identify problems, propose innovative solutions, relentlessly raise standards, and have a huge impact by disrupting the way network threats are mitigated on AWS on a global scale. The right candidate will have hands-on involvement in building new tools, services across AWS’s growing footprint.
