ILLUMINATION FOUNDATION Grant Writer in Santa Ana, California

Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Foundation (IF) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.

Job Description

The Grant Writer is responsible for writing proposals and reports in support of Illumination Foundation’s

programs and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Southern California.

The pay range for this position is $66,560 - $70,000 annually, depending on experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare grant proposals, letters of intent, and reports for government, corporate, and foundation donors.

  • Research, develop, write, and respond to public and private grant opportunities in the areas of homelessness, healthcare, housing, social services, mental health services, and children and families programs.

  • Generate revenue for the agency through timely submission of well-researched, well-written, and well-documented grant proposals.

  • Research potential funders for Illumination Foundation's programs.

  • Evaluate RFPs to determine eligibility and funding probability.

  • Maintain and expand grants pipeline.

  • Respond to public (federal, state, county, city), corporate, and foundation grant opportunities in the areas of homelessness, healthcare, housing, social services, mental health services, and children and families programs.

  • Write, format, assemble, and submit accurate and well-written LOIs, grant proposals, and acknowledgements in a timely manner.

  • Prepare interim and final progress reports, communicate with different departments (operations, finance, data, etc.) regarding progress of grant funding projects.

  • Update grants master log, maintain grants calendar, and update files.

     

    Expectations

  • Effectively work under pressure; use independent judgment; produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.

  • Analyze and distill complex data into story-driven narrative.

  • Understand and create budgets.

  • Research, evaluate, and identify new funding opportunities for special programs.

  • Proofread and edit department proposals and written materials for other Illumination Foundation departments and programs.

  • Prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet challenging deadlines.

  • Work collaboratively among departments to gather information necessary to write meaningful and persuasive proposals.

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, community stakeholders, government agencies, and potential donors.

  • Stay current on trends related to public health, housing and healthcare for the homeless as well as best practices for grant writing standards and proposal guidelines.

  • Stay abreast of best practices in service delivery, pertinent research, and new, innovative approaches.

    Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum of five years of relevant nonprofit experience

  • Excellent writing, editing, and researching skills with a minimum of five years of relevant writing experience

  • Experience with writing government grants (federal, state, county, city) strongly preferred
