Student Wellness Services hires Elementary Counselors, School Social Workers and School Psychologists and then works with school administrators to assign them to a school location. Please note Interviews for the upcoming 2024-25 school year begin in March with the exception of School Psychologist’s whose interviews begin in January.

We are now gathering applications for Social Worker that are interested in applying for openings at K-12 schools for the 2024-25 school year! Applications and screening interviews must be completed in order to be considered when schools begin interviewing beginning in early 2023.

How do second round interviews work for School Social Workers? The Student Services department may contact you to complete a second round interview. This may happen in person or on Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts or Meet.

If you are offered a position with Canyons School District, the Student Responsive Services department will assign you to a location.

Interviewing for positions typically begins in January and can continue through the spring, summer, and fall months as new openings occur.

The School Social Worker works within an assigned Elementary School building, and provides a variety of services within a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. Services include schoolwide social emotional learning supports, as well as small group/individual psycho-social evaluations, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Interventions Plans, and plans of student support. School Social Workers conduct group and individual counseling services, parent and teacher consultations, and use data to structure and implement student supports. School Social Workers work within a collaborative school team that may include school psychologists, school counselors, and educational professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide social/emotional services within an MTSS framework.

  • Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents.

  • Track service and intervention data.

  • Interpret and analyze student academic and behavioral data.

  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments.

  • Develop behavior intervention plans.

  • Assist with the school’s 504 accommodation team.

  • Provide direct intervention services to students (individually and/or group).

  • Provide consultation services with school personnel and parents.

  • Act as a liaison with community professionals.

  • Actively participate in continued professional development activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Predictable and reliable attendance.

  • During time of state of district emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of education and operation priorities, e.g. general cleaning and sanitizing of work areas provide remote assistance to students and staff, and any other reasonable duty as needed.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the School Social Worker is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The School Social Worker is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.

  • The School Social Worker must be able to respond to the unique educational needs of students with disabilities in a stressful setting.

  • This job may emphasize intervention with and management of aggressive and self-abusive students, angry students, emotional students, students with infectious diseases, and personal or physical abuse.

    Preferred Skills:

Candidates must have a Master's Degree in Social Work and have or be able to obtain their Utah Professional School Social Worker license and DOPL - (CSW/LCSW)

  • Expired licenses, out of state licenses, or University students that will graduate in May or August 2024 are also eligible to apply.
