Job Duties and Qualifications
Job Duties:
Prepare, review and/or provide feedback on:
Income tax filings for all Canadian legal entities (partnership and corporations)
Monthly, quarterly, and/or annual tax provisions for all Canadian legal entities
Tax forecasts (Cash and ETR)
Return-to-accrual (RTA) and Tax Basis Balance Sheet (TBBS) for all Canadian legal entities within 30 days of filing tax returns
Account reconciliations for various tax accounts
Controls evidence for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls
Legal entity financial statements
Thin capitalization, excessive interest and financing expenses limitation (EIFEL), and Paid-up Capital calculations
Manage, review, and provide feedback on:
Annual withholding tax filings under Part XIII, Regulation 102 and Regulation 105 (T4s, NR4s, T4A-NRs) for relevant Canadian legal entities
Master Service Agreements (MSA), contracts, and business cases to Business Development and Proposals teams
Indirect tax matters as well as GST and PST returns
Support and assist the Regional Tax Manager with:
CRA audit responses. This includes gathering relevant documents, drafting responses to audit questions/letters, communicating with CRA auditors, and liaising with external advisors
Foreign affiliate information returns (T1134s) and Foreign Accrual Property Income (FAPI) calculations
Transfer pricing related filings (T106s)
Conducting functional interviews on an annual basis to update transfer pricing related documentation
Tax planning and reorganization projects (windups, dissolutions, amalgamations, income tax rollovers, etc.)
Due diligence on acquisition of assets or shares
Documenting and updating tax exposures on a quarterly basis for the purposes of US GAAP FIN 48
Working with external advisors to support the tax function
Work with finance, accounting, HR, payroll, and operations to deal with various tax matters and questions that arise
Research technical issues as needed for various corporate, personal, and indirect tax matters
Update corporate head office on Canadian tax legislation
Maintain knowledge with technical tax issues and accounting standards through attending webinars, in person seminars, and reading technical information
Monitor and update Canadian tax rates for provision purposes
Train accounting and offshore staff to prepare relevant working papers that can be used for tax purposes
Identify opportunities to automate processes to help the tax function become more efficient through the use of technology and resources that have been made available
Qualifications
• CPA Canada designation
• Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Course (All levels)
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
• Experienced tax practitioner with 5+ years of tax experience in public practice and/or corporate tax environment
• Experience with TaxPrep, OneSource, SAP (ECC and S4) and Altyrex
