  • Earned Bachelor degree in any discipline from an accredited institution;

  • One or more years of experience in higher education working with student support/student success programs and initiatives;

  • Experience working with a wide body of students, staff, and faculty;

  • Work experience with students in academic success and/or recovery efforts;

  • Demonstrated experience working as a team member on programs/projects;

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Adult Education, Developmental Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Professional Counseling, Curriculum and Instruction, School Improvement, Postsecondary Student Success, or a related field;

  • Spanish language proficiency;

  • Two or more years of direct experience with success coaching, transfer navigation, and/or academic advising;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, assessment, and practices used to foster student learning;

  • Technical experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint;

  • Ability to multi-task, work cooperatively with others, and build rapport quickly in a fast-paced work environment.

Job Description

Responsible for providing applicants and enrolled undergraduate students with academic advising, tutoring, and learning support; and promoting and providing activities that support academic success and timely graduation. Support students in navigating admissions, transfer planning, academic learning supports, online learning, and degree and teacher certification requirements. This is a grant funded position that is in-person on the San Marcos campus. Funding is projected to continue until August, 2029 but is dependent on funding decisions made by the federal funder (U.S. Department of Education).

Job Duties

  • Manage a caseload of transfer and TXST enrolled students in Project ADAPT . Meet, refer, and follow up with students regarding general transfer planning and academic advising, questions, concerns, and needs.

  • Foster retention of students and timely graduation through academic coaching, improving time management, test preparation, study skills, monitoring of student grades, and other support activities. Provide academic direction and advice to students; place or remove holds.

  • Maintain records, make referrals as required, and manage organizational aspects of individual student cases.

  • Refer students on academic probation to appropriate services and resources and monitor their progress. Respond to inquiries from students and interpret university and college policies and procedures.

  • Represent Project ADAPT and collaborate with appropriate personnel from the College of Education Advising Center, the university Transfer Center, the COE Associate Dean for Students Success, and the Division of Student Success. Interact with appropriate service offices regarding the academic progress of students, such as the Student Learning Assistance Center, the Writing Center, and the Counseling Center.

  • Collaborate with the ADAPT PI and Co-PIs, Program Coordinator, and faculty on a variety of retention and academic support efforts.

  • Function as a member of the ADAPT professional staff team by attending project staff meetings.

  • Other duties assigned.
