Position Description

TheDepartment of Sociology (https://www.soci.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, with an area of specialization in gerontology or aging, to begin in theFall 2025semester. Research, teaching, and service expectations are commensurate with tenure expectations in the department.

Required Qualifications

The Department houses an interdisciplinary online graduate program in Dementia and Aging Studies (M.S.D.A), and we are seeking a faculty member that will actively participate in this degree program. Candidates are required to have a record of, or demonstrated potential for, successful teaching of:

  • Online courses in gerontology or aging.

  • A Ph.D. in sociology, gerontology, applied gerontology, aging studies, or dementia studies by August 2025 is required.

  • A background in sociological knowledge and perspectives is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with an active research agenda in:

  • Dementia or cognitive aging and ability to obtain external funding.

Preference will also be given to candidates with a record of:

  • Developing and teaching online courses (particularly in gerontology or aging, and any other relevant skills and experiences that could strengthen the M.S.D.A. program.)
