Position Description

TheIngram School of Engineering (https://www.engineering.txstate.edu/) of Texas State University has launched a newMechanical Engineering program (https://www.engineering.txstate.edu/programs/mechanical.html) that incorporates Industry 4.0 tools and technologies throughout the curriculum to prepare students who can design and develop mechanical and thermal systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructures. Currently, the program seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2025. Only candidates with substantial expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins with a strong background in control systems and robotics or thermal-fluid sciences will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program in their areas of expertise, exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels, participate in curriculum and program development, and perform university and professional service.

This position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a very closely related discipline.

  • Academic and research background in the field of control systems and robotics or in the field of thermal-fluids sciences.

  • Expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins.

  • Research competence evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings related to AI and Digital Twins and in the field of control systems and robotics or the field of thermal-fluids sciences.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.

  • Record of teaching experience.

  • An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.

  • Knowledge about ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants and contracts.

  • Experience applying AI or Digital Twins to semiconductor manufacturing.
