Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • A minimum of 15 hours or more in accounting coursework from an accredited college or university. Relevant accounting experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

  • Progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial statement preparation including knowledge of automated accounting systems and professional standards

  • Excel proficiency including use of formulas and strong problem solving skills

  • Experience with complex reconciliations including extracting and working with large data sets

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize competing projects

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university

  • USAS (Uniform Statewide Accounting System) experience including processing transactions and reporting functions

  • Certified Public Account

  • Governmental GAAP accounting experience

  • Experience with the preparation of financial statements or supporting schedules

  • Experience with an ERP system ( SAP , Banner, Peoplesoft)

Job Description

Texas State seeks an experienced accountant with a background in account reconciliations and financial reporting. The Accountant II works in two systems: the university’s integrated general ledger accounting system and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System ( USAS ). The position also monitors and reconciles USAS state appropriations to ensure data integrity and complete financial reporting. Prepares periodic financial statements, moderately complex account reconciliations, journal entries and various ad-hoc reports and on-demand analysis. Prepares schedules and completes entries for the Annual Financial Report and State Pass-Through Coordination.

Job Duties

  • Reconcile monthly appropriation activity and balances between the two systems

  • Identify required adjustments, prepare, and submit journal entries both in the integrated accounting system and USAS

  • Ensure payments and reimbursement requests are processed promptly and correctly in compliance with state statutes and expenditure code assignments

  • Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures

  • Assist with the completion of the Annual Financial Report ( AFR ) entries, notes or schedules

  • Prepare spreadsheets and graphs to facilitate interpretation of data

  • Ensure procedures and supporting documentation is maintained

  • Work as a team member to facilitate cross-training and perform duties necessary to the effective operation of the department

  • Other duties as assigned
