PROYECTO AZTECA Construction Laborer in SAN JUAN, Texas
Position Overview: The Construction Laborer at Proyecto Azteca supports construction and rehabilitation projects that provide safe, affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income families. This position is hands-on and involves assisting the construction team with a variety of tasks essential to the building and maintenance of homes. The Construction Laborer will work closely with Construction Trainers, project supervisors, and volunteers, contributing to a positive, safe, and efficient work environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Site Preparation and Cleanup: o Assist in preparing construction sites, including clearing debris, leveling ground, and setting up necessary equipment and materials. o Clean up the worksite at the end of each day, ensuring a safe, organized, and accessible environment for staff, volunteers, and families. o Support environmental cleanliness by maintaining proper disposal practices and organizing tools and materials. 2. Basic Construction Assistance: o Perform general labor tasks, including digging, lifting, carrying, and loading/unloading materials such as lumber, concrete, and other building supplies. o Assist with foundational construction tasks, such as setting up frames, installing insulation, and applying basic weatherization methods under the guidance of the Construction Supervisor or Trainer. o Work alongside skilled trainers and construction staff to help with various stages of building, providing support for carpentry, masonry, painting, and other trades as needed. 3. Tool and Equipment Maintenance: o Manage and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring everything is in proper working order before and after use. o Check tools in and out from the tool library, keeping inventory records accurate and assisting in minor maintenance or cleaning when necessary. o Follow all safety protocols related to tool and equipment handling, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Safety Compliance and Training:
o Attend all required safety training sessions, including courses on heat stress prevention, proper lifting techniques, and general workplace safety. o Follow established safety guidelines to protect themselves, other workers, and volunteers on site, reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor. o Assist in setting up safety barriers, signage, and protective measures on the job site to ensure compliance with OSHA and Proyecto Aztecas safety standards. 5. Support for Training Sessions and DIY Workshops: o Assist Construction Trainers in preparing for DIY workshops and community training sessions by setting up equipment, arranging materials, and demonstrating simple tasks when necessary. o Provide hands-on support during workshops, guiding families and volunteers in using tools, assisting with project steps, and reinforcing safety measures. 6. Additional Duties as Assigned: o Provide on-the-ground support for any other construction or maintenance tasks as assigned by the Construction Supervisor. o Be flexible and willing to take on various tasks as the needs of the construction site evolve. Qualifications: ? Experience: Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or general labor is preferred but not required. ? Skills: o Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 80 lbs), working in various weather conditions, and standing for extended periods. o Basic knowledge of construction tools and materials, with the willingness to learn and develop additional skills on the job. o Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively under the guidance of supervisors and trainers. o Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines and protocols. ?
