We are looking for an innovative and passionate Senior Director Engineering - SDET who will play a critical role for our organization. In this role, you will lead teams of SDETs who are embedded in the Agile scrum teams and actively participate in technical design, product, and architecture direction to influence testability/serviceability of our hybrid product strategy and continuously raise the quality bar by working backwards from our customers’ journey. You will work with cross functional teams and organizations to ensure that the architecture and design are of high quality, stable, scalable and reliable. You will establish the technical testing & quality standards and drive the best engineering practices through design reviews, architecture reviews, hackathon activities, customer visits and engagement with the entire engineering and product organization. In addition, you will be responsible for building a leadership bench of capability and accountability as well as elevating the SDET team and help cultivate and be a role model for the cultural attributes of Splunk.

What you will do and expertise you will need to be successful

  • Be a leader with vision in delivering high quality solutions to our enterprise on-prem, SaaS, and hybrid customers by collaborating multi-functionally and bringing the voice of the customer in every phase of SDLC

  • Provide the vision to craft and implement the technical testing roadmap to develop our next generation hybrid cloud Application platform

  • Drive SaaS & hybrid cloud testing strategy for all of Platform

  • Strong advocate for Voice of the Customer and comprehensive Quality approach

  • Influence the integration of outstanding architecture principles and goals into the teams’ projects through designs, implementation strategies, and project sequence

  • Help grow, mentor, and shape engineering culture

  • Work with product managers and engineering leaders early on to craft testability and supportability of the product offerings and build testing capabilities that are flexible, extensible, and robust to achieve best customer outcomes

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 10+ years of software development, including extensive large scale Back end and Front-end applications (Enterprise and single/multi-tenant Applications), and SDKs

  • Experienced in single and multi-tenant application development

  • Ability to lead all aspects of thorough architectural, design and code reviews

  • Working knowledge of test frameworks like pytest, Ginkgo, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Java, Go and/or Python programming skills

  • Knowledge of Jenkins, Hudson, or any other CI systems

  • Strong knowledge of linux systems, Docker, k8s

  • Experienced in building automation frameworks

  • Experience in incorporating customer use cases and telemetry data into testing

  • Hands on experience recruiting top talent

  • In-depth understanding of application performance, scalability, and reliability

  • Prior experience with Splunk or a similar analytics solution

  • Experience in multi-year transformation initiatives


  • Lead our SDET engineering organization and drive the culture of high quality, efficiency, and execution to deliver value to our customers

  • Drive a culture of quality, technical curiosity, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making

  • Participate as a member of the senior management team and work with partners to develop a clear quality and integration testing vision and roadmap for the Platform organization

  • Quality champion and customer advocate from product inception to release

  • Identify and communicate risk and bottlenecks in faster rollout of releases, products, features, etc

  • Ensure high quality bar exists for test plans, test cases, test matrix, test coverage, and bug matrix

  • Lead SDET transformation strategy to drive towards a DevOps Model

  • Communicate effectively on testability requirements and collaborate multi-functionally while leading a strong team of SDETs

  • Help create, implement, and communicate a clear set of quality metrics, processes and requirements

  • Oversee automation hygiene, implement release criteria, and use data driven approach to continuously improve customer excellence

  • Mentor and develop all levels of SDET professions


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent

  • A minimum of 5 years Director+ experience leading SDET/SWE teams plus a minimum of 10 years professional experience in the single and multi-tenant application development

  • Ability to have effective two-way communication with senior leadership and dev teams

  • Experience in leading an agile development teams

  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively
