About the Role

The Data Science and Analytics Team at Gap Inc. applies data analysis and machine learning techniques to drive business benefits for Gap Inc. and its brands. The team’s focus is on creating analytical capabilities to support customer acquisition and retention, personalization and marketing at Gap Inc. Areas of expertise include segmentation, targeting, forecasting, marketing effectiveness measurement and optimizations, customer behaviors, site analytics and business growth initiatives. In this role, you will develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy tailored to unique business needs; encompassing all aspects of data management, quality, and security.

This role is located in our beautiful San Francisco hub.

What You'll Do

Crafting Strategic Data Governance Initiatives :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy tailored to unique business needs, encompassing all aspects of data management, quality, and security.

Establishing Governance Frameworks :

  • Define and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures that promote data integrity, consistency, and transparency across our brands and systems.

Fostering Data Stewardship Culture :

  • Cultivate a culture of data stewardship and accountability by establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and ownership structures for data assets across the organization.

Ensuring Regulatory Compliance :

  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure Gap Inc.'s data governance practices align with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry standards.

Partnering with Data Teams :

  • Work closely with data engineering, architecture, and analytics teams to integrate data governance capabilities into our technology infrastructure and data pipelines.

Monitoring and Optimization :

  • Conduct regular audits, assessments, and reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of data governance initiatives, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous optimization.

Leadership and Mentorship :

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to data governance specialists, stakeholders, and business partners to foster a deep understanding of data governance principles and best practices.

Subject Matter Expertise :

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data governance trends, emerging technologies, and industry benchmarks, sharing insights and recommendations with executive leadership and stakeholders.

Effective Communication :

  • Communicate key data governance concepts, initiatives, and outcomes to diverse audiences, including executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams, using clear, compelling language and visuals

Collaboration :

  • Across x- Legal, Audit, CISO and other line of defense functions to support information protection and risk mitigation strategies

Steering:

  • Data governance meetings and committees, contributing to the continuous improvement of data governance policies and practices.

Who You Are

E xperience :

  • Senior leadership level experience in data management, data governance, or related roles, with a proven track record of leading successful data governance initiatives within the retail industry.

Technical Skills :

  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, metadata management, and data security concepts. Experience with data governance tools and technologies (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM InfoSphere) is highly desirable.

Leadership Skills :

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and drive alignment towards common goals.

Analytical Thinking :

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, analyze complex problems, and develop data-driven solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Regulatory Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry standards related to data governance, privacy, and security within the retail industry.

Salary Range: $222,200 - $305,600 USD

Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.
