The K-12 Education Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) is a role within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) K-12 Vertical team. Our customers are public school districts, educational service agencies (ESA), private schools, charter schools, and state/county departments of education (DOE). We are seeking a strategic technology leader with a deep understanding of the education sector and current trends, who is capable of driving market development through insightful solutions, programs, and sales campaigns. This role will focus on highly secure, reliable, and available cloud-based solutions that empower school districts, regional agencies, and state departments of education with advanced data analytics capabilities, providing insights that go beyond the data. Additionally, this role will concentrate on enhancing AWS's collaboration with Educational Service Agencies (ESAs) across the United States, enabling them to offer a diverse array of services more effectively to their constituent school districts.
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Thinking: Identify customer and business needs, and develop scalable strategies to seize new business opportunities.
Execution Excellence: Beyond conceptualizing and designing strategic projects, you will be responsible for their seamless execution, implementing new solutions in conjunction with the K-12 sales and vertical teams.
Collaborative Approach: Successful creation and execution of strategic initiatives will require engaging with various internal stakeholders, strategic customers, and partners.
Analytical and Scalable Mindset: You will identify key metrics, track results, and swiftly adapt to failures while scaling successes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will work closely with Sales Account Managers, Solution Architects, Partner Development Managers, EdTech Account Managers, and Marketing Teams to drive cohesive efforts.
You should have a demonstrated passion for working with K-12 school districts and institutions to ensure that they are setup for success. You should have experience building strong, deep relationships with customers, organizations, and education technology providers. You should possess business and/or education backgrounds that enable you to drive engagements with School Superintendents, Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), and educators; as well as a technical background that enables you to easily interact with system administrators and network engineers. You should have a demonstrated ability to dive deep into business problems, propose solutions, and overcome technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. A successful candidate demonstrates strong ownership, teamwork, and grit. As a BDM, you will drive and own the strategy for specific areas within the K-12 Vertical and you will be responsible for opportunity generation within that area. This role will passionately promote the AWS cloud technology solutions, enable the technology ecosystem supporting education providers, and address changing industry needs.
Key job responsibilities
Identify initiatives and solutions to accelerate cloud adoption, solve problems for K-12 customers, and improve learner outcomes with a specific focus on Data & Analytics Solutions.
Support customers (e.g. School Districts, ESAs, State DOEs) with Data & Analytics solutions.
Establish strategies focused on collaborating and scaling with ESAs, to develop and support a diverse array of services they can offer to their constituent school districts.
Engage with strategic K-12 customers (e.g. educational institutions that serve 100K+ students) to help them define their cloud strategy and support them with their priorities.
Partner with key K-12 education associations to build AWS’s voice in the market.
Create mechanisms to scale sales programs and campaigns.
Identify customer trends to spread cloud success strategies across customer segments.
Execute in partnership with key internal stakeholders (e.g. sales teams, service teams, support, etc.).
Write executive-level documents for large scale, long-term opportunities.
Forge strong relationships with sales teams and present business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks to expanding our reach in the industry.
Define and size market segments, identify and engage key customers and partners, including independent software vendors and system integrators.
Build business development pipeline by engaging with key prospects and partners.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
6+ years of senior technology leadership experience within a K12 customer (school district, private school, charter school, state/county DOE, ESAs)
Demonstrated business or technical leadership, product management, business development, program or project management, and/or operations experience in and around data & analytics systems
Preferred Qualifications
Former CIO/CTO of a K12 School District
Experience in cloud computing and/or AWS services, in a K12 setting
Deep knowledge and understanding of how K12 districts operate
Strong familiarity with K12 budgeting cycles and procurement processes
Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations
Strategic thinker that can take broad visions and concepts and develop structured plans, actions and measurable metrics to execute those plans and deliver benefits
Large scale project management experience including the formulation and implementation of a business development strategy

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
