The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of multiple divisions - the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) is accepting applications for Nurse Practitioner (Adult) positions (Class 2328). Positions may be located throughout the San Francisco Department of Public Health, including, but not limited to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center (LHH), and San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) clinics located throughout San Francisco.

The list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill 2328 Nurse Practitioner - Adult Specialty positions for the next six months.

Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings. Essential duties include but are not limited to all or some of the following:

  • Manages patient care within the field of specialization in collaboration with the Physician;

  • Provides health education and counseling to patients and/or care givers;

  • Maintains medical records;

  • Participates in nursing/clinic staff meetings and conferences, as well as quality improvement/control activities

  • May supervise/review the work of medical staff and clinical auxiliary personnel according to hospital, health center and/or clinic structure; AND

     The 2328 Nurse Practitioner - Adult Specialty performs other duties as assigned/required.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. LICENSE: Possession of a valid permanent/temporary California license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

  2. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

  3. LICENSE: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses; AND

  4. EDUCATION: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university; AND

  5. SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS: (Adult) Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP; or Acute Care NP;AND

6.  CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization:

  b.  American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) 

  c.  Pediatric Nursing Certification Board  (http://www.pncb.org/)

  e.  American Association of Critical Care Nurses (http://www.aacn.org/) ;

Desirable Qualifications: The following desirable qualifications are applicable to NP Adult positions as described below.

 

Adult NP positions working in Primary Care

  • One year of experience as a NP in primary care

     Adult NP positions working in the Infusion Center Units

  • Six months Oncology experience

Adult Medicine NP positions working on the Inpatient Medical-Surgical Units

  • Two years of Inpatient experience as an RN in an acute care hospital and Adult NP, Family NP or Acute Care NP certification OR

  • Two years of Acute Care NP experience including Adult Medicine or Emergency Department experience

Inpatient Orthopedic NP positions working on the Inpatient Orthopedic Team

  • Inpatient NP Orthopedic experience

  • Outpatient NP in an Orthopedic Clinic

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
