VMware Github Admin / Python Dev - Opportunity for Working Remotely in San Francisco, California

Ready to build? So are we! Come join VMware’s Digital Asset/Source Code Management (SCM) team. As a strategic arm of our Engineering Services Organization, our SCM Engineers play a critical role in VMware’s development infrastructure. Our engineers also provide hands-on technical guidance with design and deployment related activities, perform code reviews, and prevent, analyze, root cause & resolve technical issues. Our team is geographically distributed with members in Palo Alto, Colorado Springs, and Bangalore


You have a passion for development and have administered/managed your team’s Source Code Management tools and in your first 6-12 months with us: You will have established yourself as the subject matter expert with administration of github.com organizations for VMware. You will have automated tasks related to management of our services. You will have learned how to manage containers and VMs in an enterprise environment. You will have established yourself as a trusted service provider to product development and partner with Security. You can work remotely from anywhere within the greater United States.

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent work experience

  • At least 3 to 6 years in Software Engineering or DevOps related functions

  • Experience developing software in Python (preferred), Go, C/C++, Java

  • Working knowledge of Perforce, Git, Mercuiral, SVN or related technologies.

  • Experience working in a modern Linux environment

  • Experience in modern CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, Maven, Hudson, CircleCI, etc.

Preferred, but not required skills

  • Experience in container, container orchestration technologies, and Kubernetes is a plus

  • Domain expertise supporting services for engineering organizations is desired (but not required)

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Source Code Administration exp. and is desired (but not required)

  • Experience in a Site Reliability/Infrastructure Engineering role managing highly available large-scale systems by monitoring and measuring availability, latency and overall system health is desired (but not required)

  • A deep passion for SRE/DevOps and running highly resilient/automated systems a plus.
