Adecco @ Cruise is looking to hire a Vehicle Test Engineer in San Francisco, CA
What You’ll Be Doing:
We’re looking for a Vehicle Test Engineer (contingent worker) to support our Hardware team at Cruise. Your work will help to ensure that the Cruise autonomous vehicle systems are meeting all reliability, safety and regulatory requirements while achieving an industry-leading level of performance!
In this role, you will work closely with multi-functional teams as well as external partners to develop and implement closed-course vehicle testing programs. You will be responsible for supporting the design, execution and analysis of vehicle system validation tests. You will perform hands-on problem solving alongside colleagues, becoming a domain expert for all things related to Autonomous Vehicle Testing.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include:
Support the planning and execution of closed-course autonomous vehicle system testing
Communicate and raise issues, as appropriate, with internal and external teams
Create and maintain test cases and test plans based on test scenarios and requirements; define metrics, interfaces, and develop test methods for vehicle testing
Collaborate with project management teams to define the vehicle configuration, install instrumentation and coordinate track scheduling
Support multi-functional root causes analyses of sophisticated fleet-wide issues, affecting hardware, software and the vehicle system
Use python scripts for vehicle data post-processing and analysis
May occasionally drive Cruise AV/vehicle manually on public or Cruise private property
Perform other ad hoc, job-related duties, as assigned
What You Must Have:
Minimum associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial, or equivalent experience
1-2 years of experience related to systems testing in automotive, robotics, or similar fields
Basic programming skills to develop scripts for automated testing and data processing (python, C++)
Hands-on experience working with and debugging complex hardware and software systems
Currently holding an active, valid regular driver's license from state where based
Successfully complete a background check, drug screen, and DMV Motor Vehicle Record check, as required by the local market record check
Prioritize safety and maintain a safety-first mindset, while following all safe work practices and policies
Ability to give and receive clear, prompt, and understandable verbal and written communications
Accurately type and read on a computer or tablet, to include in a moving vehicle
Safely operate the AV in accordance with Cruise safety protocols and applicable law. This includes, but is not limited to, having a sufficient range of motion to frequently turn a steering wheel, operate the accelerator and brake, check blind spots and evaluate the environment, and maintaining appropriate air bag clearance.
Ability to sit or stand for up to eight hours per shift
Ability to use keyboard, mouse, and screen for up to eight hours per shift
Perform physical work including, but not limited to, stooping, lifting, and moving up to 50 pounds, and walking up and down flights of stairs
Passion and enthusiasm for autonomous technology
Ability to work on-site at a Cruise assigned office or location

Experience with AV / ADAS testing equipment and interface tools, i.e. 4A systems, AB Dynamics, OxTS, Applanix, Intrepid systems, Vector
Experience with Linux based operating systems and robotics middleware (ROS)
Understanding of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet)
Experience with autonomous driving compute systems, sensors and communication protocols
Work Schedule
Full-time with flexibility to cover spike periods and modified shifts, including nights. Weekends required.
Pay Details: $50.00 to $60.00 per hour
