Ethos Veterinary Health Veterinary Technician Per Diem in San Diego, California

Are you an experienced veterinary technician or assistant interested in expanding your clinical knowledge & skills at a state of the art ECC/specialty teaching hospital with a schedule you chose? VSH-Sorrento Valley is looking to add to our current roster of fabulous per diem veterinary technicians.

Per Diem:  An employee who is available to work as needed for coverage above and beyond the full time staff members in times of need for efficient patient care. Availability requirements are established by department according to hospital necessity and will include the number and types of shifts, weekends and holidays.

Per Diem employees are eligible for limited benefits, including pet discounts, uniform allowance, and access to the Vetbloom learning platform.   Benefits are available the 1st of the month following 30 days.

Pay Range:

Veterinary Assistant:  $23 - $30 per hour

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT): $26.00 - $35.00 per hour

Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS):  $38.00 - $50.00 per hour

Additional differential for overnight shifts. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and credentialing.

This position offers the opportunity for growth within our emergency and specialty services, with the flexibility of you being able to decide your schedule based on shift availability using our online scheduling program.

Job Duties may include:

  • Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout their visit

  • Partnering with DVM's in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures

  • Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.

  • Utilizing different modalities of imaging for patient assessment

  • Hourly management of treatments for hospitalized patients

  • Executing, monitoring, and recovering assigned sedation and anesthetic events

  • Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement in canine and feline patients that are stable or compromised

About You:

  • Minimum 2-3 years working in a progressive hospital (1 yr in ECC/Specialty a plus)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must

  • The ability to prioritize and adapt to a fast paced, fluid environment.

  • Possess a good overall knowledge of disease processes, medical math, anesthesia, and pharmacology

  • Current CA RVT license or VACSP required

  • Must be able to work a MINIMUM of 20 hours per month

  • Must be available to work at least 1-2 holidays or company events per year
