The job function includes active participation and contribution to Qualcomm's Research systems engineering activities related to the evolution of 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G, and Wi-Fi, as well as enhancements for positioning, sensing, AR/VR, wearables, and mission critical applications. Candidates will perform theoretical analysis, computer aided analysis, regular active participation in design and review sessions, contribution to QUALCOMM's IP portfolio, systems support for implementation, technical contributions towards proprietary or public air interface specifications and participation in working groups of standards organizations including IEEE and 3GPP.
Over the past thirty years, the Systems Research Department of Qualcomm Technologies Inc.’s Wireless Research and Development, based in San Diego, California, conceived of key innovations in wireless communication systems including 3G CDMA, 4G LTE, 5G-NR, HetNets, Small Cells, CV2X, and Wi-Fi 802.11. We are looking for innovative engineers who develop deep understanding of problems through thoughtful data-driven analysis and then shepherd the solutions through the lab to real world deployment. Success requires developing an end-to-end view of systems across layers and across disciplines, and then helping to bring solutions through the lab to become real-world technologies and products.
Ideal candidate will have the following experience:
Wireless R&D: PHY and MAC Layer
Digital/Wireless Communications experience (e.g. Information theory, Coding theory, signal processing, optimization, or machine learning). Programming skills in C/C++/MATLAB/Python. Additional skills in the following areas are a plus: LTE/NR/WLAN standards experience. Modem algorithms design, including channel estimation, equalization, beam management, interference cancellation, decoders, RF impairment mitigation, radar signal processing. Link and system level development and performance evaluation. Deep neural network model design and training. Interference and mobility management in cellular and mesh networks. Carrier aggregation, multi-connectivity, multiple flows within and across radios. Multiple access techniques including classical solutions like CDMA, TDMA, and OFDMA. Modem implementation experience. Win/Linux computing platforms. Demonstrated skills in design of communications simulation tools.
Bachelors - Computer Science, Bachelors - Electrical and Computer Engineering
2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience
Masters - Computer Science, Masters - Electrical and Computer Engineering, Masters - Information Systems
2+ years of Systems engineering or related work experience.
