Thermo Fisher Scientific Staff Operations Project Manager in San Diego, California

How will you make an impact?

This position is key to driving the execution and implementation of programs within Operations. The project manager will work to increase operational capabilities by scoping any New Product Introduction (NPI), Process improvement, cost savings, or other project/programs that will change operational effectiveness. This role will assume responsibility for development and execution of strategy impacting the validated state of the medical device being manufactured at RDS in San Diego. Successful Project Managers work collaboratively with Core Team members from various functions (Product Marketing, Development, Quality, Customer Support, etc.) to improve transfer predictability frequently under high-reaching timelines. This position will support both Operations NPIs and sustaining projects. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize multiple projects in parallel, and connect with all levels of the organization.

Detailed Description:

Provide leadership to the Product Commercialization Process (PCP) within Operations

Lead large programs/projects, with a multidisciplinary technical scope across RDS

Maintain an accurate GANTT from project inception through commercial realization

Collaborate cross-functionally to create, implement, and communicate overall project plans (scope, schedule, staffing plans, quality, risk management, budget, and procurement) and revise them appropriately to meet changing project needs and requirements.

Coordinate activities between project teams to design and deliver Thermo Fisher Scientific products that are assembled to, made to, or engineered to order

Applies current validation standard methodologies and knowledge of risk-based validation approaches across a wide range of manufacturing sub-assembly and assembly processes.

Proactively communicate project status, issues & risks to business leaders

Facilitate tracking and managing project cost and ensure margins are aligned with the business approved project margin

Organize and facilitate project planning, daily/weekly stand-up meetings, reviews, and other project related key breakthrough commitments

Establish an environment where accountability and continuous improvement are fundamental to the culture

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering or related field

Minimum 5-7 years in a project/program management role with experience leading sophisticated 510(k) regulated IVD product development and sustainment

PMP preferred, Six-Sigma a plus

Master’s Degree or PhD or MBA a plus

Prior experience in In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) qualification and validation required. Knowledge of Design Control preferred.

Personal attributes:

Familiar with product development and product commercialization process

Expert at project scheduling using MS Project, including dependencies and critical path determination and optimization

Works on sophisticated, multidimensional problems where analysis may require in depth analysis, as well as creativity

Interacts and establishes effective relationships with core and extended team members, functional managers, senior management.

Able to influence others, gain acceptance in sensitive situations and resolve conflict

Command of project budget creation and management standard methodologies

Accomplished at resource scheduling and loading

Enjoys dealing with people and is able to interact and concisely at all levels

Self-managing and self-motivating, able to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines and expectations
