Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$55.673 - $71.836 - $87.999

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

Assists patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to the designated patient population. Assists with the leadership of the Nursing and Patient Service Representative Staff. Serves as technical nursing expert for assigned areas.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 Year RN experience in a related clinical area

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED

  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

  • Leadership experience

  • PALS is required within the first 90 days of hire.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical expertDemonstrates strong nursing skills in the areas of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.Demonstrates technical expertise and competency, and works within scope of practice.Acts as a clinical resource.Partners with providers to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base.Maintains current knowledge of cardiovascular pathophysiology and pharmacology.Demonstrates ability to recognize 12-lead EKG abnormalities.Performs patient teaching for a variety of ambulatory diagnoses.

  • Department efficiency and effectivenessEnsures prompt and efficient return of messages according to established policy.Troubleshoots and resolves problem calls.Responsible for receiving ancillary results, routing to provider and forwarding to medical records as appropriate.Monitors patient flow and provider schedules.Completes daily tasks to ensure quality and meet service standards.Reviews charges for accuracy and completeness.Follows policy and procedure for entering items into OCM.Completes work within assigned hours.May maintain nursing policy and procedure manuals and/or sit on policy and procedure committees relevant to department function.Demonstrates clear knowledge and accountability of quality regulations and standards for department.Maintains quality assurance book/list on unit.Maintains established patient to nurse ratios with minimal oversight from the charge nurse.Performs all other duties as required by Director, Patient Care Manager, coordinator, lead, or supervisor.

  • Nursing skillsDemonstrates clinical nursing skills in Urgent Care as measured by providing direct patient care and successfully performing nursing tasks in assigned area.Demonstrates technical expertise and competency within established scope of practice.Acts as a clinical resource.Demonstrates expert IV skills.Monitors patients during periods of both stable and unstable hemodynamic events and documents appropriately.Able to administer and monitor the infusion of vasoactive agents.Uses universal precautions and demonstrates knowledge and practice of infection control policies and procedures.

  • Patient educationAssists with developing patient educational materials in partnership with providers.Provides individual patient teaching.Identifies educational needs and works with providers and manager to develop teaching programs to meet those needs.

  • Teamwork and leadershipAssists in scheduling and organizing technical and clinical in-services, customer service training, mock codes and pharmacy fairs.Provides on-going clinical and service support and serves as preceptor/mentor for new nurses and other staff.Is consistently pro-active in team development and problem-solving to meet department goals.Actively and positively strives to meet department goals and support change in a positive manner.Uses positive communication skills, identifies issues, makes suggestions related to access, patient care and patient satisfaction to immediate supervisor and offers solutions for resolution in cooperation with other team members.Gives and receives feedback about care and service delivery in a positive and constructive manner.Displays a willingness to float and assist in other departments and at other sites.Attends and participates in departmental and unit activities such as meetings and training.When acting as charge nurse, responsible for oversight of entire unit as related to problem solving, service recovery, and daily tasks; responsible for control of patient flow, rounding on patients and providers, completing charge nurse log, ensuring quality initiatives are met, coordinating staffing, and keeping team, patients, providers and supervisor informed.Floats to other UC sties to cover sick calls.Performs all other duties as required by Director, Patient Care Manager, coordinator, lead, or supervisor.

  • Triage of messagesListens to patients, collects pertinent information, assesses patient's needs, recognizes the urgency of patient's problem, offers advice and recommendations based on approved protocols or routes to providers as necessary.Assists in assuring telephone messages are returned in a timely manner.Clearly documents information in patient's clinical record or departmental logs.Notifies provider of abnormal vital signs, assessments or reactions to treatments.Initiates standardized procedures and POC testing when appropriate.Types proficiently and accurately; has the ability to proof work.Consistently abides by and demonstrates the Sharp Healthcare Telephone Standards.
