The Opportunity

The position of Senior Program Manager is within our Infectious Disease business unit located on site in San Diego, California . We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

In this role, you will manage all aspects of a large-scale and complex project from start to finish, ensuring it is completed on time and within budget. The Senior Program Manager will formulate, harmonize, and consolidate project scopes, plans, strategies, and budgets for one or more projects. You will work closely with functional Project Managers and other Subject Matter Experts from Product (Commercial), Tech (R&D), Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, and other functions.

What You’ll Work On

  • Design, communicate, and implement an operational plan for completing a project; monitor progress and performance against the project plan; resolve operational problems, minimize delays.

  • Identify, develop, and gather necessary resources to complete the project.

  • Prepare designs and work specifications; develop schedules, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors.

  • Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete.

  • Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.

  • Liaise with other areas in the organization to secure specialized resources and contributions for the project.

  • Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.

  • Coach and mentor project staff and assist them to solve problems.

  • Travel internationally up to 20%

Required Qualifications ​

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.

  • 8 years End-end program management experience in Engineering within a diagnostic, medical device/biomedical, high technology, and/or any other regulated industry.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with project stakeholders (client and internal), end-users, business partners, and technical team members to ensure proper systems and plan alignment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels in the organization

  • Previous experience working in a matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and MS Project experience.

  • Travel internationally up to 20%

Preferred

  • Advanced level degree(s) in Engineering with 10 years of relevant experience. as R&D leader, project manager and/or alliance manager, ideally in medical devices.

  • 2 or more years of experience with hardware and software development of complex systems

  • 2 or more years of diagnostics, or medical device industry experience.

  • Program/Project Management certifications such as Scrum/Agile/PMP.

  • Additional cross-functional experience in the areas of Manufacturing, Operations, Commercial, Clinical, Regulatory, and Quality.

  • 2 or more years of Software project management experience in similar industry.

  • Working knowledge of FDA 510(k) and/or EU IVDR regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to work unconventional hours with international groups.

The base pay for this position is $146,700.00 – $293,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
