Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for well qualified Principal IFC Systems Engineers to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This position is located in San Diego, CA.

The selected candidate will be responsible for coordination and collaboration with diverse engineering design teams to provide imaginative, technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems in establishing and managing the technical baseline in support of programmatic milestones. The selected candidate will assume an IFC lead role as part of the Systems Engineering Integration (SEI) team on the RQ-4 Enterprise. As part of day-to-day operations, the selected candidate will interface with various engineering functions and suppliers both internal and external to Northrop Grumman.

The position requires system thinking and extensive knowledge of development life-cycle processes. Candidate must exhibit strong communication skills (written and oral) and support coordination cross-IPT toward the goal of an operationally validated integrated system.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with IPTs to develop and execute program IFC plans and metrics

  • Manage project execution rhythm, coordination, and reporting activities

  • Manage supplier activities and serve as primary project POC to customers and key suppliers

  • Technical liaison to the cross-functional team

  • Familiarity and understanding of system requirements (validation and verification) and interface control documents (ICDs), and statements of work (SOW)

  • Familiarity with JIRA software tool (and/or similar) for issue tracking and resolution

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Systems Engineer (level 3) consideration – Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of engineering experience; MS degree in STEM discipline with 3 years of experience in engineering. PhD degree in a STEM discipline with 1 years of engineering experience

  • Experience in at least one aspect of aerospace Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, test planning, requirements verification, integration, and requirements management

  • Must have at least an Interim Secret clearance for consideration

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a final DoD Secret Security Clearance

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • Experience with Project Management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Integrated Functional Capability (IFC) process

  • Familiarity with JIRA software tool (and/or similar) for issue tracking and resolution

  • Strong leadership, excellent communication, and strong presentation skills

  • Experience with Agile Methodology

  • Defect management experience

  • Familiarity and understanding of system requirements (validation and verification) and interface control documents (ICDs)

  • Experience in software development, including interfacing with systems engineering and integration and test

  • Experience in integrating hardware and software in a lab environment

  • Experience in troubleshooting system issues in a lab or the field and identifying root cause corrective actions

  • Experience with USAF programs

  • Experience with technical configuration management (CM or Technical Baseline)

  • Experience with root cause investigations, fielded issue investigation, and operational missions

Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
