Northrop Grumman Space Components Business Unit designs, manufactures and operates small and medium-class spacecraft for communications, imaging, scientific, exploration and national security space applications. The Group is leading supplier of space components that power and enable satellites of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.

Northrop Grumman Space Components has an opening for a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Commerce, CA or San Diego, CA . for 1st shift.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for

  • Supplier Quality risk management including subtier suppliers

  • Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems.

  • Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance. Including special process audits.

  • Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.

  • Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues.

  • Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list.

  • Supports site supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process. Keeps management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks.

  • Supports to create Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases for sites.

  • Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and as new procurements are required on existing programs.

  • Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard)

  • Development and execution of supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and supplier quality requirements development and flow-downs.

  • Execute strategic and tactical supplier quality tasks

  • Support work transfer initiatives including make to buy, buy to buy, and buy to make

  • Support supplier owned work transfers

  • Support new product/process integration efforts

  • Data driven segmentation efforts to identify and plan supply chain quality maturity efforts such as capability assessments, capacity assessments, SPC, statistical FAI, PPAP

  • Coordinate inspection consolidation efforts

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field and 2+ years of relevant experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Design Engineering and/or 2+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement

  • Performance of Mission Assurance Quality Engineering functions associated with design, fabrication, and inspection of materials/components used in the production of Aerospace materials and hardware both in-house and at supplier facilities.

  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement Mission Assurance methods and strategies to assure the design, procurement, acceptance, and use of procured items.

  • Ability to prioritize and work multiple tasks,

  • Ability to apply problem solving/critical thinking skills to resolve issues.

  • Ability to interface effectively with suppliers, customers, work associates/teams, and management

  • Ability to work autonomously at suppliers

  • Ability to support various manufacturing environments including second and third shifts

  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action

  • Capabilities to study, understand, and apply stringent procedures to assigned duties. Ethics, compliance, and quality of work are essential to this position.

  • Some travel will be required to maintain the supplier quality.

  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the defense industry.

  • Certification or knowledge in J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, 610, 620 or MIL-STD-883.

  • Supplier quality experience

  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications.

  • Lead auditor experience to ISO 9001 and AS9100, AS9102 requirements.

  • ASQ Lead Auditor, CQE, CQM Certification

Salary Range: $92,200.00 - $138,400.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
