Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end laboratory operations for the Compound Logistics and Lead Evaluation Process and Automation teams, including compound logistics workflows, laboratory automation and automated assay execution to support the Lead Evaluation & Cellular Pharmacology screening activities at the La Jolla site.

  • Establish workflows, infrastructure and manage Compound Logistics activities at the San Francisco site in support of the RNA & Targeted Therapeutics team activities.

  • Lead process optimization projects, including lean process design and implementation to establish and streamline end-to-end processes and identify and address bottlenecks.

  • Participate in the design of automation laboratories and lead the implementation of automation projects, involving system design and prototyping, factory/site acceptance testing, method implementation, and end-user training and support.

  • Support the life cycle management, solving, maintenance, and continuous improvement of implemented robotic systems, while continuing to innovate to meet the changing needs of the business.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or an Advanced Degree is required in molecular biology, chemistry, engineering or related field.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 or more years of experience in automation and liquid handling.

  • Experience in managing technology infrastructure, end-to-end and day-to-day assay platform operation is preferred.

  • Direct experience in design and implementing of complex cell biology assay workflows and automation system is preferred.

  • People management experience is preferred, including the management of Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. scientists/engineers and/or contractors.

  • Hands-on hardware/programming experience with robotic liquid handlers (e.g. Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Agilent) and robotic integration / scheduling software (e.g. HighRes Biosolutions Cellario or Thermo Scientific Momentum) is preferred.

  • Experience managing capital equipment procurement projects including specification development, supplier selection, technical reviews, installation, and qualification of robotic automation equipment is preferred.

  • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization, as well as with suppliers and vendors is preferred.

  • Working knowledge with data analysis and visualization software such as Prism, Genedata, and Spotfire is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $131,000 to $225,400.
