Naval Facilities Engineering Command BOILER PLANT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in San Diego, California

Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will make complex technical decisions and judgements for repairs on complex boiler systems. You will ensure all safety procedures and environmental control safeguards are followed. You will maintain remote heating boilers and perform major overhauls of the entire system including repair, replacement, and installation of boilers and equipment. You will perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment. You will monitor and test the operation of power boiler systems to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of steam and hot water equipment systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements and rigid tolerance; 2) Monitoring and adjusting thermostats, switches, regulators, and other safety devices and alarm systems in compliance with established safety standards; 3) Troubleshooting and repairing pollution control equipment; and 4) Using electronic controls, devices and automatic boiler management systems to identify equipment malfunctions.
