Position Title: Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic Job Title: Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic I Function: Transportation Family: Transportation Administration Reportsto: Director of Fleet Maintenance Pay Grade: N10 Terms of Employment: 240 days per year. At-Will employment agreement. Salary is in the pay grade N10 on the NonExempt SAISD Compensation Plan. Entry hourly at $20.06 with consideration for directly related experience. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Funding Source: This position is locally funded. Position Summary Perform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities 1. Applies good working knowledge while using diagnostic equipment to evaluate moderate to complex mechanical problems in vehicles. 2. Under general supervision, services vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Rotates and balances tires; changes oil and filters; lubricates vehicle parts; inspects and replaces hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels. 3. Inspects vehicles and evaluates condition ofsystems, equipment, accessories, and lights using good working knowledge; services as needed. 4. Maintains accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service. 5. Makes emergency calls as assigned by supervisors when vehicles have problems in the field. 6. Performs preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules. 7. Completes work with latitude for independent judgment in accordance to quality, performance, safety and industry standards. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). 4 + years full time experience within the last five (5) years, in general automotive repair work and tune-up of diesel vehicles, gasoline vehicles, small engines and air conditioning systems, or related field. Must pass annual medical examination per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Valid Texas drivers license Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with endorsements for school bus driver (persons hired with a class C drivers license, must obtain the A or B CDL with endorsements Revised: 10/11/2024 Job Description within 30 calendar days from the date of employment). Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility). Must have or be able to obtain Vehicle State Inspection Permit as required by management. Must meet alcohol and controlled testing requirements set forth by the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to diagnose and repair automotive vehicle problems, including engine, transmission (both standard and automatic) drive train, brakes, electrical system, fuel system, exhaust and emission control systems, wheel alignment and automotive air conditioning. Knowledge ofsafety measures regarding use ofstandard chemicals related to the position is required. Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance tasks. Ability to operate all types of mechanic power and hand tools. Working Conditions Work Environment: Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position. Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc. Physical Demands/Requirements: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, cli bing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
