Job/Position DescriptionLicensed Vocational Nurse II performs highly complex vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals residing at the TCID who have complex TB medical diagnosis. Performs basic and complex routine and non-routine nursing tasks to promote the health of the individuals within the assigned areas and assigned shift. Collects specimens for lab work and performs health screenings. Performs technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations. Keeps informed of and follows all agency and hospital policies and procedures. Assists with admission and discharge process of the hospital. Direction and assists with on-the-job training to others such as newly hired LVNs and direct care staff. Assists Registered Nurses (RNs) with implementation of protocols, procedures, and programs to improve overall health and safety of staff and individuals. Works under general supervision of an RN with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Essential Job Functions1. Provides advanced, technical nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) Charge Nurse.2. Performs all duties in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient. Records and reports all observed signs, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patientand#146;s condition to the RN.3. Follows policies and procedures in reporting medication errors.4. Administers medications to patients, orally or by injection, including intra-venous medications and treatments.5. Documents care and observations in the clinical record. Accurately transcribes and notes physician orders. Participates with Multi-Disciplinary Care team.6. Assists with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients. Takes action to ensure patients safety and to maintain a safe environment.7. Participates in team conferences, development of plan of care, and shift reports. Assists with orientation of new employees.8. Interacts with patients and participates with them in diversional activities. Actively participates on nursing and hospital committees.9. Assumes responsibility for own continuing education.10. Serves as a resource/mentor for new LVNs. Assists the RN Supervisor with on the-job nursing instruction and training of other new LVNs.11. Ensures that supplies are available, in advance, to provide the required procedure or treatment. Takes inventory and ensures the unit is properly stocked. Orders supplies through appropriate channels when they are needed.12. Responds to emergency situations to ensure safety of individuals.
