Department Summary:

The Air & Space Forces Center Cyber Division is currently seeking to grow our team with a highly talented engineer who is interested in leading our Multi-Domain Cyber Integration initiatives.

Cyber defense of C4, weapon systems, information, and operational technology, is becoming an increasingly critical focus within MITRE’s highest priority sponsors and missions, and MNS Priorities and Opportunities. Our organization is looking for a candidate to lead a concerted effort to tackle this challenging problem not only to detect/mitigate coordinated cyber-attacks on weapon systems, also to enable decision making (ex. ABMS, JADC2) to ensure system and mission resilience at scale. This role leads the development and integration of cyber architectures and solutions across a large spectrum of mission systems. The selected candidate will be responsible and accountable for ensuring MITRE is strategically aligned across our work programs to bring expertise in integration of architectures and capabilities for defending our nation’s most critical mission focused weapon systems and critical infrastructures to achieve transformational levels of defense, offense, and resiliency to Cyber Attacks. The selected candidate will work across key technical leaders in MITRE programs, Labs, customers/Sponsors to develop integrated cyber architectural artifacts and recommend areas for high mission impacts in cyber.

This role spans across the air, space, nuclear and cyber domains with a focus on Multi-Domain Cyber Effects and engages with sponsors responsible for building cyber solutions, training/equipping cyber operators (i.e. Cyber focused Command Elements), building cyber defensible weapon systems, and providing cyber acquisition guidance across Air Force and DoD sponsors. This role not only unites and shapes MITRE efforts towards a common lexicon and repeatable/ sustainable approach to cyber capabilities, but also drives impactful change to the overall cyber readiness of our nation’s most key missions.

We are seeking a strong technical leader who is a mission focused, strategic thinker, with strong Cyber expertise, with knowledge of C2, Nuclear, Space, challenges, and capabilities, who has worked on integration, interoperability, systems of systems architecture with ability to communicate, influence, and drive outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop trusted relationships across A&SFC projects and leadership to drive coherence of cyber capabilities

  • Develop Center unifying operational use cases and experimentation that supports coherence of Cyber to improve Resiliency to Cyber-attack for mission systems.

  • Develops strategies to converge and integrate Cyber capabilities to reduce DAF interoperability challenges

  • Work to develop federated architectures across Center projects to drive interoperability

  • Help Center projects identify opportunities for collaborative experimentation

  • Bring to bear and help transition MITRE research and capabilities to projects and sponsors

  • Identify opportunities for reuse of Cyber capabilities across Center projects and Sponsors

  • Identify and integrate innovative solutions to improve sponsor outcomes

  • Work shape key efforts and initiatives across the Center to increase mission impact

  • Work across the Center projects to accelerate Pivot-to-the-Pacific

  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with sponsors and external stakeholders to drive convergence of Cyber Defense capabilities for mission systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess an active DoD Top Secret security clearance with the ability to achieve a TS/SCI and above

  • Ten years of experience with Cyber Systems and Cyber Operations

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a BS in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related degree, or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of cyber defense solutions/architectures/constructs being applied to current and future weapon systems across domains, services, and agencies.

  • Proven experience in providing technical leadership to multi-discipline cyber teams to increase the technical strength of a cyber work program, influencing sponsor and stakeholder thinking as a trusted advisor

  • Integration, architecture, with system of systems thinking, and ability to look at the big picture and connect the dots.

  • Ability to multi-task, with strong written and verbal communication skills - Able to communicate effectively to influence and build trusted relationships.

  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively across diverse customers/sponsors/stakeholders to propose, shape, and lead impactful work.

  • Ability to bring academia, industry, and FFRDCs together to foster a diversity of perspective on solving complex challenges associated with weapon system cyber defense.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science and 15 years of experience in relevant domain

  • Experience incorporating Cyber Threat Intelligence concepts to develop defensive capabilities

  • Deep understanding of cyber frameworks such as ATT&CK and D3FEND

  • Demonstrated knowledge across the air, space, nuclear and cyber domains.

  • Recognized expert across various customers/sponsors in multiple facets of cyber including its application to weapon systems, enterprise IT, OT systems and how associated multi-tier cyber defense models are applied

  • Demonstrated ability to work with range of topics and teams and lead by example

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and integrate complex architectures

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage cutting edge technologies/concepts to enable forward leaning concepts and methodologies (ex. Zero Trust, Digital Engineering, AI/ML, Autonomy, Information Warfare, Critical Infrastructure, Non-traditional Data)

  • Knowledge of Cyber Offensive concepts and capabilities

  • Experience mentoring and developing technical staff.
