State of Utah - Jobs Traffic Signal Engineer - Region Two in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join the Region Two team as a Traffic Signal Engineer (Engineering Manager I). This position will perform duties that include directing maintenance,operational and decision-making,and the supervision of eight traffic signal maintenance technicians. You will also serve as a resource for technical questions for other operational,maintenance and deployment personnel. You will guide the traffic signal program for 555 traffic signals for UDOT Region Two. Principle Duties While primarily focused on signal maintenance,you will also work directly with the Traffic Management Division,Region Two,Local Municipalities and other stake holders in managing traffic signal maintenance and operations to ensure that the traffic signal program in Region Two is world-class. Other major tasks include:

  • Managing traffic signal maintenance activities for Region Two (555 signals) to ensure that UDOT's traffic program is world-class and in compliance with UDOT standards and MUTCD requirements.
  • Ensuring a high level of cooperation between the Traffic Management Division,Region Two,local Municipalities and other stakeholders. Treating all stakeholders (both internal and external) as both a customer and a partner.
  • Coordinating with project managers and permit officers to plan for traffic signal operations during construction,maintenance,and permit projects.
  • Reviewing traffic signal designs from signal maintenance and operations viewpoint.
  • Managing performance of proactive preventative maintenance.
  • Managing inventory and asset management of traffic signals.
  • Managing various performance measures for the traffic signal program.
  • Managing the response to citizen complaints and suggestions.
  • Collaborating with the Traffic Management Divisions Signal Operations team in ensuring that traffic signals are operating and functioning well.
  • Managing the vehicle detection systems in Region Two and ensuring that it is operating well and optimized. Assisting with the deployment of new technologies such as LiDAR.
  • Responding to Government Records Access Management Requests (GRAMA requests) in a timely manner.
  • Managing and configuring Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPMs).
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate The best candidate for this position must:

  • Be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah
  • Have at least two years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE
  • Have strong leadership,facilitation and organization skills

This position may be filled as an Engineer III for those lacking the 2 years of post PE experience.  In order to fill the position as an Engineer III,you must be registered as a PE in Utah,plus have one year of engineering experience after licensure as a PE.   • Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting,which is adequately lighted,heated and ventilated,e.g.,safe use of office equipment,avoiding trips and falls,observing fire regulations,etc.
  • Physical Requirements - Typically,the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however,there m ay be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile,etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
