Job Summary
Collects field data of new and existing underground utilities and surface features (building, roadways, etc.) within the campus lands. Prepares accurate and complete maps of said features to be inserted into the campus GIS system.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
Using advanced survey instruments such as GPS , EDM , Lidar and drones, obtain precise location data of physical aspects of University property, utilities, and other physical features.
Mark existing utility lines on University property.
Keep accurate records of work performed and assist with transferring the data to GIS .
Assist with resolution of utility and other data.
Assist with quality control of record drawings and survey information provided by contractors.
Assist with other surveying needs.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Seldom: Hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Specific areas of expertise may be preferred by departments.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Preferences
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or other related field or equivalency is required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
A surveyor license is preferred but not required.
Five years of related experience including experience in using various surveying instruments and equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in plats, technical drawing and mapping, AutoCad Civil 3D, ARC Map is preferred.
Working knowledge of surveying math, e.g. Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry.
Critical-thinking, problem-solving and time-management skills. Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision. A valid driver’s license is required.
