We are looking for passionate engineers with strong development skillsets who are Oracle Database, Oracle Cloud, Oracle Autonomous Database, Oracle Data Management (Partitioning, Compression), and Exadata experts. We seek engineers with current experience in cloud technologies or those interested in expanding their skills in the Cloud.

Oracle Health’s Database Services Team is a client-facing organization supporting 400+ customers with an extensive fleet of databases across the world. As a Database Site Reliability Engineer, you will solve interesting technical challenges by defining, designing, deploying, and troubleshooting key Oracle Cloud services, platforms, and infrastructure while always thinking about reliability, scalability, resilience, security, and performance. This position will focus on critical database system migrations to the cloud and life cycle management in OCI. This includes strategic projects to provision and transition existing databases underlying hospital systems to Oracle Cloud and Autonomous Database.

This role owns mission critical database lifecycle management projects including Oracle database upgrades, cloud migrations , major/minor patching, OS upgrades, host migrations, and other projects. An ideal candidate will have a history of automating processes and migrating Oracle Databases to Cloud platforms including Exadata Cloud service and Autonomous Database platforms. This position will identify improvements in migration and upgrade processes, and mentor junior members of the team. An ideal candidate will be capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and keeping them on schedule meeting program and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Ownership Scope – As an SRE, you will understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of the production services you own. In partnership with your Development partners, you will have the responsibility to ensure that services are designed and delivered to be mission critical with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance.

Operations Engineering – You will understand and be able to communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes and requirements of the services you own.

Automation – You will have a clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles, and will be eager to automate, wherever and whenever the possibility arises, while simultaneously eliminating technical debt. Automation must be part of your DNA.

Prevention - Once you have expertly resolved an issue, you will immediately work on how to more quickly resolve the problem next time, with the goal to eventually prevent the problem happening ever again

Broad Interests - SREs are a rare mix of sysadmins and development Engineers, and as such have the ability to understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on the ability to run as distributed systems. They are driven by professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of the their services and the technologies they depend upon.

Represent SRE - Proactive, self-motivated, customer-focused, organized, and a good communicator. SREs can be expected to represent our team capabilities to other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience as Oracle DBA

• 3+ years of experience automating and streamlining processes to add performance and stability

• Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree (Information Technology/Mathematics/Computer Science/Computer Software/Electronics/Operational Research/Computer System Engineering).

• Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

• Strong grasp of Computer Science concepts

• Knowledge in Python, Perl and/or Shell Scripting

• Managing production databases running on UNIX flavors (RHEL, OEL).

• You are experienced at building highly available services, possessing knowledge of common service-oriented design patterns and service-to-service communication protocols.

• Experience with production operations and best practices for putting quality code in production and troubleshoot issues when they arise

• Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations)

• Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture & Exadata.

• Understanding of REST Architecture and JSON is a plus.

• Building and managing Linux OS systems with good understanding how the Linux kernel works (IO, Network, etc.) and ability to read and understand source code.

US: Hiring Range: from $79,000 to $158,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
