Environmental Resources Management, Inc. Senior Consultant, Wildlife Biologis in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

 

ERM is seeking an outstanding professional to join our Elko, NV or Salt Lake City, UT office as a Senior *Environmental Scientist,* Wildlife Biologist to support our Mining and Energy teams. Work location can be flexible. This position will include a combination of field and office responsibilities.

 

As a member of the team, you may conduct work in various jurisdictions across the country, but work is intended to be primarily in the western US. This position will primarily focus on wildlife (threatened and endangered, and species of concern) and wildlife habitat. This may include vegetation and wildlife habitat mapping, wildlife field surveys, wildlife ecological assessments, and mitigation planning for ERM projects primarily in the mining and energy sectors. The successful applicant will have experience with field surveys and should have critical thinking skills to effectively apply agency survey protocols to unique project needs. Excellent writing skills are required. More broadly, the applicant must show an interest in applying knowledge and skills to help our clients solve complex challenges in these sectors. This role has potential for career growth with the successful candidate having opportunities to learn project management roles, directly interact with clients and regulators, and participate in business development. The successful candidate will be a member of a large, multidisciplinary impact assessment team and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and lead field survey efforts primarily in the western US.

  • Interpret and apply agency-approved survey protocols to meet project needs.

  • Conduct field programs for wildlife, including birds, amphibians and large mammals.

  • Support preparation of wildlife assessments for EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with applicable federal, provincial/territorial requirements.

  • Perform project delivery activities including but not limited to field surveys, literature reviews, report writing, and developing recommendations for clients.

  • Prepare proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients.

  • Work on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and help to meet quality standards on project deliverables and timely delivery of reports.

  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, Indigenous communities, and clients during field activities, as required.

  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.

     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc or MSc. degree in Biological Sciences, or related field.

  • 3+ years of environmental consulting experience; prior experience in government, and/or mining or oil and gas sectors are considered assets.

  • Must be comfortable working in rugged environments including areas with no cell service.

  • Expertise with state and federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to survey methodologies and environmental assessments.

  • Spatial mapping skills an asset.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.

  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when required.

  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.

  • Valid drivers license and good driving record. Experience operating 4-wheel drive vehicles.

For the Senior Consultan , Wildlife Biologist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,148 $82,290 USD. An employees pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
