INTERWEST TRANSPORTATION Regional Truck Driver - Class A CDL in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah
Job Purpose
Regional Drivers service Interwest Transportation customers by picking up and delivering loads while providing exceptional customer service. Regional Drivers utilize trucks equipped with sleeper berths to successfully complete their job duties.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance
- Perform thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections before and after each workday.
- Document and report any required maintenance or repair issues found during the inspections.
- Operate a class 8 tractor/trailer combination vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all laws pertaining to such operation.
- Remain alert and attentive to ensure the safe operation of fleet vehicles.
- Drive and work in all kinds of traffic, road, and weather conditions.
- Ensure loads are secure according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
- Follow all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations by utilizing Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
Customer Service
- Assist with loading/unloading trailers at customer facilities.
- Maintain a positive attitude and provide friendly and professional relationships.
- Hostle trailers at customer facilities as needed.
- Help keep equipment in good repair by sweeping out, ensuring tires are properly inflated, ensuring required paperwork and permits are current and in place in/on the equipment.
Attention to Detail
- Complete and turn in all paperwork in a timely manner.
- Plan routes using approved truck routes.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with and comply with FMCSA rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Class A CDL required
- Valid DOT medical certification
- At least 21 years of age
- Strong customer service skills
- Able to pay close attention to detail
- Basic computer and technology skills
- Must be able to speak and read English
Prohibitions
- No more than one (1) chargeable or preventable motor vehicle accident within the past three (3) years
- No convictions of any offense involving the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs within the past seven (7) years
- No convictions for careless or reckless driving of a motor vehicle within the past three (3) years
- No felony convictions of any kind
- No misdemeanor domestic violence convictions
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- 1-2 years verifiable experience driving tractor/trailer combination commercial motor vehicles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge:
- Basic vehicle maintenance and repair skills
General knowledge:
- FMCSA regulations
Thorough knowledge:
- Hours of Service (HOS) rules and regulations
- Route planning using maps to determine the most efficient routes and ensuring such routes are designated for truck use.
Working Conditions
Regional drivers work in varying types of weather conditions ranging from extreme cold, snow, and ice to extreme heat. Regional drivers are typically away from home 1-2 nights at a time and sleep in their trucks during the trips where they are on the road for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
Must have a valid DOT medical certification. Ability to assist with unloading and loading trailers and securing loads inside the trailers. Able to bend, crouch, crawl under trailers to perform required inspections. Ability to spend extended periods of time driving.
