Job SummaryThe Department of Pediatrics is looking for a Genetic Counselor to join our team. This position provides genetic counseling services and supports clinical genetic projects and research efforts within the Department of Pediatrics. Clinical genetic counseling practice areas are primarily in pediatric neurology and serves a broad patient population.. The Genetic Counselor provides education, risk assessment, counseling, support, and follow-up to individuals and families who have, or may have, genetic health conditions. This position will help support genetic counseling services and research across multiple pediatric specialties and is housed under the Division of Pediatric Neurology.The Genetic Counselor, Temporary License is responsible for providing information and support to families and will focus on one of the following areas under the supervision of a Licensed Genetic Counselor: Leukodystrophy and Epilepsy, Inpatient Neurology, and General Neurology. The area of assignment will be determined during the hiring process. Identifies, investigates, interprets, and communicates potential risk factors and provides support and counseling to families and patients by referring them to relevant support services under the supervision of a Licensed Genetic Counselor. A temporary Genetic Counseling License is required for this position and is only good for 18 months, after which time the candidate must have a full Genetic Counseling License. This position is supervised by a Licensed Genetic Counselor while learning the nuances involved with genetic services.
