University of Utah Post Doc Res Assoc in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Our lab has used genomic and transcriptomic approaches to discover genes and gene variants altering human platelet number and function. A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available for candidates to assist in characterizing the role of the thrombin PAR4 receptor in platelet function and in models of thrombosis. We have generated two mouse lines wherein the mouse Par4 gene has been replaced by different human PAR4. Our goal is to understand how these variant contribute to human diseases, including ischemia/reperfusion injury. In addition, we use human megakaryocytes and platelets to study the molecular and cell biology, and signaling of this receptor under static and shear conditions.Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years research experience in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology and be able to work independently. The candidate must have experience with flow cytometry, microscopy and mouse models. In addition, the candidate should be able to independently analyze and interpret experimental data and write up the results for publication and presentation at national meetings. A background in mouse genetics and animal models of thrombosis would be viewed favorably. This position provides an excellent opportunity to grow scientifically and work with a dynamic group of well-funded investigators in a Molecular Medicine Program of translational and basic research in vascular thrombosis.
