The Stefan Pulst / Daniel Scoles Neurology Laboratory group at the University of Utah, Department of Neurology, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship for the study of neurodegenerative diseases using calcium imaging and electrophysiological recordings. The Neurology Laboratory is well-funded by NIH, and other funding sources. We seek a highly motivated PhD in a related medical science who is interested in carrying out research on how RNA granules control localized calcium abundance and neuronal function in cultured cells and acute brain slices. The research objectives include understanding mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease as well as testing novel therapeutics in disease models.The postdoc will join a well-established research program focused on developing therapeutics for cerebellar ataxia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimers disease, Parkinson disease using mouse models and iPSC neuronal models combined with antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) or AAV microRNA -based therapeutics. The cellular mechanisms underlying these neurodegenerative diseases will be evaluated using a combination of two-photon imaging to monitor calcium abundance changes, live imaging for monitoring the movement of RNA granules, and electrophysiological recordings.Located on the upper campus of the University of Utah, the position offers exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with a diverse group of investigators in both the Department of Neurology and the College of Pharmacy with a wide range of interests relative to the area of investigation, and a rigorous focus on developing therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.
