Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Hammer Lab in the Department of Pathology has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who shares our passion for discovery. The position will be based at the University of Utah School of Medicine, ranked among the top 30 public research universities in the nation.

Projects are broadly focused on the dynamics between host and microbe (both pathogen and commensal), and the utilization of cellular immunology and next-generation sequencing-based metagenomics for identifying epigenetic mechanisms of trained immunity for both innate and adaptive immune cells.

Disease focus in the lab includes inflammatory bowel disease, infectious disease, liver fibrosis, colorectal cancer, immunotherapy, and the intersection of age and the microbiome.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant should have a PhD and expertise in cell/molecular/microbiology and/or immunology. Applicants with expertise in flow cytometry, confocal imaging, cell culture, and next generation sequencing are preferred. Excellent communication skills (speaking and writing English), and a track record of publication in English language journals are required.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. The successful post doc will be involved in the development of experimental design, data collection, and analysis. Projects will involve collaborations with colleagues at the University of Utah as well as those at other institutions.

  2. The post doc will be expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate students assisting with the research.

  3. Requires independent judgment in the design and interpretation of experiments.
