What You Will Do :

NERC - Associate Director, Risk, Compliance, and Security. Responsibility for delivering NERC compliance program development solutions, client management, solution implementation and solving client problems to deliver Guidehouse results. Connect Guidehouse teams with clients and across services to bring comprehensive risk, compliance, security, and technology enhancements to our clients. You will establish, participate in, or lead parts of project workstreams. Highly visible role interacting with clients and internal Guidehouse experts. This includes supporting day-to-day operational meetings with client sponsors and consulting leaders. This NERC – Associate Director is expected to leverage industry connections to foster client and firm success: establish business development opportunities, communicate well-organized, effective Guidehouse solutions and presentations to client and internal executives. You may lead, coach, and mentor consultants and ensure quality deliverables. This is a leadership and delivery role designed to maximize customer success. While the main focus for this role is NERC Compliance, the ideal candidate has transferrable skills across state and local government clients with business skills that can support risk, governance, and delivery across a spectrum of clients beyond specific NERC needs.

Responsibilities include :

  • Delivering NERC compliance solutions including O&P and CIP gap analyses, regional enforcement and compliance process development, Internal Compliance Program augmentation, risk assessments, process improvements, audit readiness, and advisory support for NERC, FERC, and regional issues

  • Establishing and facilitating business development meetings and foster industry relationships for short, medium, and long-term success

  • Supporting workstreams that enable the assessment, development, and enhancement of business strategies, operating plans, business processes, organizational structures, and supporting infrastructure for clients

  • Applying NERC and regional regulatory expertise to support the design of client deliverables

  • Leading projects pertaining to NERC compliance and cybersecurity with Utilities, State and Local Government Agencies, and the Public Sector, including in the United States and Canada

  • Conducting NERC audits, improving NERC Compliance and Cybersecurity processes, analyzing internal controls, and implementing process improvements

  • Applying technical competencies on the ground with clients and potential clients

  • Conducting assessments for operational improvements and efficiencies beyond NERC - Analyzing related strategy implementation and risk or compliance efforts

  • Communicating solutions and new strategies to clients through meetings, reports, and presentations.

  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis to further support delivery.

  • Review internal work product compared to client expectations

  • Support, develop, mentor, or lead staff

What You Will Need

  • Due to nature of client engagements, must either be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, policy, communications, economics, finance, and/or related discipline

  • 9+ years working experience within the electric utility industry, including as a regulator or leading registered entity compliance, with an emphasis on NERC Reliability Standards and the supporting regulatory framework and processes around NERC and the regional entities

  • 8+ years in a leadership or management role

  • Experience working for a Regional Entity, NERC, FERC, or state equivalent (e.g., a PUC)

  • Demonstrated working proficiency in the NERC Reliability Standards across both O&P and CIP

  • Demonstrated working proficiency in the NERC Registration framework and processes, including Inverter-Based Resources

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong communications skills, including both written and verbal communication

  • Strong critical analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Highly developed organizational and management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities without diminished effectiveness

  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and teams

  • Ability to travel as required (estimated 25%)

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • MBA degree or similar advanced degree in business, communications, and/or economics discipline;

  • Consulting experience (internal or external) in delivery role

  • Consulting experience with business development responsibilities

  • 15+ years working experience in a Reliability Compliance field for an electric utility, a Region, NERC, FERC, or similarly structured or related regulatory body

  • Specific working experience related to any of the following:

  • Bulk Electric System (BES) and power systems

  • Electrical Reliability

  • NERC/FERC Enforcement or Auditing

  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Operations and Planning (O&P)

  • CIP Medium (and High) Impact experience desired

  • Internal Compliance Program Assessment

The annual salary range for this position is $144,400.00-$216,600.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
