Flexan Manufacturing Engineering Manager- NPI in Salt Lake City, Utah

JOB DESCRIPTION The New Product Introductions (NPI) Engineering Manager is responsible for providing our NPI Engineering organization with the advanced vision, technology, and procedural expertise they need through the entire product introduction, transfer, and release to production process. This NPI Engineering Manager will lead and develop a team of talented engineers, engineering technicians, and/or technical writers responsible for executing on a diverse portfolio of NPI projects. The role involves overseeing development activities related to NPI as well as owning product qualifications and other engineering deliverables.  The manager will coordinate with various departments and customers to ensure smooth transitions through the entire accelerated NPI process, from customer's design requirements, new product introduction, transfer to manufacturing process engineering, as well as lean & continuous improvement initiatives throughout product fulfillment meeting customer's requirements.

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote safety through leadership in process safety analysis, ergonomic assessments, and process improvement activities.

  • Manage an NPI Engineering team and all NPI related activities.

  • Embed quality standards within the NPI Engineering team and ensure adherence to the QMS

  • Provide senior leadership on NPI projects and amongst the NPI Engineering team in all tooling and equipment specification, and all validation IQ, OQ and PQ stages, including engineering support for mass production.

  • Plan, implement, and execute NPI engineering projects, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements, per customer requirements.

  • Lead NPI engineering workflow to ensure that the customer product requirements and specifications are fully understood and fulfilled, that the initial control of product engineering changes are fully documented, validated, and deployed on the production floor, and that the bill of material is fully validated.

  • Oversee the development and execution of the tool and equipment design workflow, performing as a minimum the validation and qualification customer mechanical assemblies, review of tool required material, and complete the customer dimensional, functional and cosmetic requirements, then conduct tool and equipment design reviews, and finally approve the tooling and equipment manufacturing.

  • Participate in customer early involvement as needed, including quoting new opportunities and project management

  • Lead, assist, train, and develop engineering resources allocated to new product introduction.

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment

  • Set team goals, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback to team on performance and accomplishments

  • Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project execution, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource / mentor.

  • Manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities and ensure that engineering is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements within the project timeline.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field

  • Minimum 8 years related engineering experience

  • Minimum 3 years management experience

  • Recent related experience in a manufacturing environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related field

  • 5+ years engineering management experience

  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and FDA Quality System requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to establish, communicate, and implement long-term strategic and operational goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a volume of work across multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret production and quality documents, drawings, and related industry materials

  • Strong understanding of product qualification and validation processes

  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes & equipment for production of discrete products

    Physical Demands:

  • Occasional lifting to 50 lbs.

    Work Environment:

  • 20% travel may be required

  • 100% onsite preferred
