Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

Performs semi-technical laboratory and research procedures under the general supervision of senior laboratory personnel. Research inBettini Labis focused on T cell mediated autoimmune diabetes (Type 1 Diabetes).

The Lab Aide will assist in maintaining the laboratory under the guidance and supervision of the Principle Investigator, as well as assisting with basic research experiments including molecular biology, tissue culture and tissue processing. A major component of this position will include maintenance, breeding, and genotyping of experimental mice.

The ideal applicant should be self-motivated and have good record keeping and time management skills.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains the physical environment of the lab.

  2. Mouse husbandry which includes maintenance, breeding, and genotyping of mouse colony.

  3. Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.

  4. Enters data into research database.

  5. Assists in laboratory research experiments.

  6. Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.

The incumbent follows well-established laboratory procedures to complete work. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor. Work is performed under the close supervision of senior laboratory personnel. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research protocols.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing and pipetting), walking, standing, sitting.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.
