Epidemiologist II

  • This is  NOT  a fully remote position.
  • This position is currently eligible for a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note,a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
  • Office work space located at 195 North 1950 West Salt Lake City,Utah 84116 Multi-Agency State Office Building (MASOB).
  • Occasional in state,out of state,overnight and weekend travel may be required. 
  • Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a fingerprinting background check.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

As a valued member of our team you will be:

  • Analyzing programmatic,service-related,and surveillance system data,specifically focused on early childhood evidence-based home visiting,using complex statistical analyses when appropriate;
  • Designing,coordinating,conducting,and managing special and routine evaluation procedures where there is no other existing data or processes available;
  • Evaluating the quality and efficacy of statewide and local home visiting programs. Make recommendations for improvement. Monitors trends and risk factors,strengths,and weaknesses;
  • Developing protocols to respond to investigation of emergent issues;
  • Providing technical assistance,consultations and trainings on issues regarding interventions,program evaluation,statistical analysis,and data interpretation for state staff and local implementation staff;
  • Supporting program compliance by writing and/or reviewing programmatic and technical reports,evaluations,and grants.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master's Degree in Public Health,Statistics,BioStat,Epidemiology,Sociology,or Psychology,OR at least 5 years of experience using qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of Public Health programs and identify areas in which improvements can be made.
  • Knowledge of epidemiology,research methods,survey methodology,and statistical procedures.
  • Strong critical thinking,project management,and leadership skills
  • Ability to identify problems,researching to develop and implement solutions.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for a variety of audiences.
  • Skill in writing technical reports or grants.

PREFERENCES

The following experience or skills may be of benefit to you,but the absence of them will not,in any way,exclude you from consideration. The hiring manager may identify additional related skills and requirements as preferences in making hiring decisions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 11,and/or editing and publishing software.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and related applications
  • Proficiency in SAS and data linkage methodology.
  • Working knowledge,skills and abilities related to In-Design and GIS software
  • Experience implementing federal grants,including ensuring compliance with grant requirements

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other medical insurance coverage.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
  • We have 12 paid holidays.
