Primary Purpose :This position provides technical and analytical support for Hematologic Flow Cytometry testing. Functions include use of technical flow cytometry and clinical hematology in tasks of various complexities of interpreting assays, teaching, training, troubleshooting, assay transfer from Research & Development, instrument function, and client consultation. Essential Functions :
Prepare hematologic flow cytometry reports for review by the hematopathologist.
Contribute in constructing interpretations of leukemia/lymphoma flow cytometry results in conjunction with the hematopathologist on service.
Become proficient in assessing normal samples of all sources, and pre-assess/triage cases of increasing complexity, for Hematologic Flow Analyst IIs and Pathologists.
Integrate, analyze and interpret data produced from flow cytometry testing to develop the report for pathologist sign out. Perform assigned verification duties.
Perform data entry, report writing with high accuracy, and have the ability to recognize inconsistencies and initiate resolution.
Assess the plausibility of laboratory results through correlation of data with clinical symptoms. Alert pathologist of concerns.
Provide verbal communication and/or consultation to clients/physicians or related questions or assigns the problems.
Perform hematologic flow cytometry testing as assigned. Maintain competency in high complexity laboratory testing.
Maintain continual compliance with policies, procedures, and record keeping necessary to meet the standards of regulatory agencies.
Assist in the education in the specialty of hematologic flow cytometry for residents, fellows and laboratory staff.
Accept, resolve, or assist in the resolution of problems in this specialty area. Updates the Technical Supervisor of all related issues
Assist with evaluation and recommendation of new equipment and test methodology and process improvements in the specialty area.
Assist with maintaining current files of reference materials related to the specialty area.
Assist with the training, staff development and or competency programs for a department.
Maintain competency in a majority of assays performed in the laboratory.
Provide and direct the technical expertise in the use, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of all laboratory instruments, equipment, reagents and testing.
Participate in the selection, evaluation and validation of appropriate test methodologies and instruments as assigned by the Medical Director. Facilitates transfer of new testing into the laboratory.
Enforce all safety guidelines and policies.

Qualifications
Education
Required
- Bachelor's Degree or better in Medical Laboratory Sciences
Preferred
Master's Degree or better in Immunology
PhD or better in Immunology
Licenses & Certifications
Preferred
- Applicable ASCP or AAB
Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences and 2 years of experience of high complexity hematologic flow experience Or Masters/PhD degree in immunology, hematology or related clinical field and 1 year of hematologic flow experience
Demonstrated judgment in planning, assessing results, and acting on that judgment
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences, Appropriate ASCP certification (MLS(ASCP), H(ASCP), or SH(ASCP)), and five years of high complexity hematologic flow experience Or Masters/PhD degree in immunology, hematology or related clinical field and five years of hematologic flow experience
