Job Summary

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the essential functions. Lead the HCI Finance Department with direct responsibility for budgeting, financial reporting, analysis, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, purchasing, receiving, equipment, and internal controls (12.0 FTEs). Oversee the development and consolidation of HCI budget with nearly 250 laboratories, programs, teams, and departments. Adhere to fund accounting principles for over 1,800 separate HCI chartfields including extramural grants, contracts, gifts, endowments, hospital support, university support, and state support. Oversee HCI financial reporting including quarterly consolidated financial statements consisting of Statement of Revenues & Expenses, Statement of Cash Flows, budget variance analysis, and year-end forecast.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related area, or equivalency; fifteen years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required. CPA preferred.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Perform budget preparation and review for assigned areas of HCI .

  • Responsible for the reconciliation and consolidation of the HCI research budget.

  • Perform financial analysis, reconciliations, and other accounting tasks for assigned areas of HCI .

  • Conduct semiannual meetings with each Responsible Person/Account Executive to review comprehensive funding status and individual chartfields.

  • Maintain financial reporting database and prepare consolidated financial statements, dashboards, and variance reports.

  • Maintain internal control procedures, and financial guidelines and policies including coordination with Finance staff and other stakeholders.

  • Apply accounting standards, government regulations, and University policy to specific situations and interpret the same for others. Establish mechanisms and processes that facilitate compliance and assist in reinforcing policy changes and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist Executive Leadership with special projects and continuous process improvement. Foster collaboration with Research Administration and other HCI and University departments to achieve greater efficiencies and achieve shared objectives.

  • Direct financial personnel and functions.

  • Serve as a valuable and long-term member of the HCI leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires Bachelor’s degree and at least 15 years experience in the field or longstanding experience in relevant positions at institutions of similar size and/or scope or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated success as a motivational and transformational leader. The highest standards for personal and professional ethics and integrity. The ability to excel in a complex, high-demand environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously. A profound respect for diversity and inclusive excellence in higher education.

Preferences include advanced degree in human resources, business administration, management, public administration, or equivalency. Certification as a human resource professional ( HRCI - PHR or SPHR , SHRM - SPC or similar HRM certification) Experience in guiding organizational change management. Successful experience with an appreciation for and support of shared governance. Evidence of success in utilizing data to guide recommendations. Demonstrated success serving as human resources leader in higher education or academic cancer institution.
