Job Title: Fish Culturist (Wildlife Biologist I) - Kamas State Fish Hatchery Job Description: Do you have a passion for fish and want to contribute to raising a large portion of the fish that fill our beautiful state's waters? If so,the Utah Department of Natural Resources,Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking a Fish Culturist who will help propagate fish species and maintain hatchery facility and equipment at the Kamas State Fish Hatchery in Kamas,Utah. Principle Duties: As the Fish Culturist,you will be:

  • propagating fish
  • feeding fish as directed,using proper feed levels and feeding techniques
  • cleaning troughs,raceways,quiescent zones,and other water management structures
  • assisting in spawning,egg picking,receiving and egg disinfection operations.
  • learn and assist with necropsies of various fish groups
  • gathering biological data and entering data into databases and other agency programs
  • assisting in loading fish for distribution and distribution of fish to state waters
  • maintaining facilities,equipment,lawns,shrubbery,and hatchery grounds
  • inspecting facilities,machinery,equipment,systems,etc.,to verify safety,maintenance,conditions,functions,and quality
  • assisting in the diagnosis and repair of electrical,plumbing,and mechanical problems
  • assisting with hatchery tours and helping with non-hatchery division projects
  • attending training in various areas of the division and hatchery operations

The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have:

  • have a bachelor's degree in aquaculture 
  • have knowledge of and/or experience with cold-water fish culture."
  • have basic maintenance and construction trade skills such as electrical,plumbing heating and air,welding,carpentry,etc.
  • have the ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • have the ability to follow directions accurately
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • have a valid Utah driver's license

     Preference will be given* to candidates with a bachelor s degree in a natural resources field or 6 years of demonstrated successful experience working full-time in a wildlife-related natural resources position.* Why you should join our team: The Division of Wildlife Resources believes wildlife is valuable to everyone. Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems before 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.

Paid Time Off:
