Job Summary

The Department of Neurology at the University of Utah is seeking a Digital Content Creator to enhance its online presence through strategic social media management and content creation. From designing eye-catching graphics and shooting high-quality videos to strategizing impactful social media campaigns, the Content Creator will play a crucial part in strengthening the department’s visibility and driving engagement.

Responsibilities

Social Media Management : Maintain and grow the department’s social media presence

Content Creation:

  • Generate ideas for social media feed.

  • Create relevant, engaging social media posts using consistent branding and design elements, including written content, graphics, and videos

  • Run specialized campaigns for events such as Giving Day, Stroke Week, and ALS Awareness Month

  • Post event reminders on X, Instagram, and Facebook, and create events on Facebook and LinkedIn

  • Produce social media posts promptly upon leadership request

  • Amplify neurology-related research, educational content, and patient stories

Event Coverage: Provide social media coverage for department events, including taking photographs/videos and creating posts

Strategy Implementation:

  • Develop and execute a content calendar

  • Create a comprehensive social media strategy for the department, including shaping department reputation, pinpointing target audiences and relevant trends, and adapting content to each platform

  • Utilize analytics to guide future content decisions and fulfill department goals

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages

Communication:

  • Work closely with the Communications, Marketing, and Advancement teams

  • Collaborate with other university departments, faculty and staff members, and external entities

Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years experience in performing professional media-related services, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Specific skills in photography, editing, writing, and/or video and audio production required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Preferences

  • Familiarity with current social media best practices and guidelines; ability to use social media planning tools (e.g., Sprout Social)

  • Proficient in design, photo retouching, video editing and production, infographics creation, and other graphic design elements

  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.)

  • Experience with video shooting and editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate well and consistently via email

  • Strong organizational and planning abilities
