Agricultural Research Service Program Support Assistant in Salinas, California
Summary This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), Location Support Staff in Salinas, California. In this position, you will provide a variety of administrative and clerical support tasks by applying extensive knowledge of office functions, policies and procedures. Responsibilities Duties listed represent the full performance level of the position. Provides a broad scope of program management and secretarial support for the Unit including the following: Participates in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination/tracking, agreements, and purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources administration. Provides training and advisory services to the Research Leader (RL) and professional staff in all program administrative procedures ensuring compliance with regulations. Serves as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the Unit. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled and which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. GS-06 Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-06 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent assisting with preparing or tracking financial documents; maintaining detailed records for an office environment; and answering phone calls or assisting visitors applying established guidelines involving program or administrative processes; assisting with office administration tasks including coordinating travel, ordering office supplies, or receiving leave requests; and using word processing programs to edit documents. GS-07 Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-07 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent serving as an administrative office primary point of contact; reviewing financial documents for accuracy; maintaining detailed records or files for an office environment; and participating in program planning support work such as project coordination, travel, budget, or procurement of supplies and equipment using a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software for editing documents; and providing training and advisory services to the professional staff. MUST BE ABLE TO TYPE 40 WORDS PER MINUTE Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
