GENERAL DESCRIPTION:\ Under general direction; operates mowers and light to medium construction/maintenance equipment;\ performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the maintenance and operation of the Salina municipal\ solid waste landfill; services and makes minor repairs to equipment.\ \ TYPICAL DUTIES:\ o Operates pickups, mowers, litter picker and other light to medium equipment at the municipal solid
waste landfill and in various assignments.\ o Trains in the operation of compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled
scrapers.\ o Moves, levels, compacts and covers solid waste; assists in the planning to fill cells.\ o Looks for and prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; extinguishes fires at landfill.\ o Welds, services & makes repairs to equipment; performs maintenance checks on equipment.\ o Maintains landfill roads; fixes fence; mows grounds; cleans and maintains buildings; picks up litter
and debris.\ o Prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs and special wastes.\ o Performs overtime as required and performs other duties as assigned.\ \ SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:\ N/A\ \ MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:\ Any combination of education and experience equivalent the following:\ o High school diploma or G.E.D.\ o One (1) year of construction and maintenance work operating light and medium equipment.\ o Horizontal & vertical land construction work desired.\ o Possession of a valid Kansas drivers license.\ o Possession of a valid Kansas commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brake and tanker
endorsements is desired, but not required.\ \ The City of Salina will pay enrollment fees and pay hourly wages for employees to attend CDL\ training at Salina Area Technical College.\ \ RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:\ None.\ \ ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:\ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, officials and the public.\ (Daily)\ Assigned projects are performed properly and efficiently. (Daily)\ Apply and maintain knowledge of the current methods, equipment, materials and tools to effectively\ maintain and operate a municipal solid waste landfill facility. (Daily)
