Job Description Summary
The Power Conversion team focuses on technology development and innovation for high power electronic devices, systems and control software. The team has great expertise in high power electronic devices like IGBT and IGCT and their applications, simulation, controls, and software development.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, construction, and operation of new equipment used to effectively test and validate power electronics products
Partner with converter Systems engineer for design of power converter and power system validation facilities
Lead the development of test operating procedures and complete safety reviews for test permits.
Lead technical reviews to evaluate new product requirement specifications for completeness and clarity for testing. Provide feedback for constant process and product improvement
Develop product test plans and ensure complete test coverage. Document supporting evidence and drive constant process and product improvement based on validation results
Establish and maintain traceability of requirements to validation results
Document test results of defects and abnormal behaviors. Drive root cause evaluation of defects and abnormal behaviors witnessed during test
Validate systems to agency certification requirements (e.g. IEC, UL, CSA, etc)
Work with EHS and engineering team to develop and ensure compliance to safe work practices
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering
Minimum of 5 years of experience planning, designing, constructing, and commissioning complex electrical power circuits and systems
Desired Characteristics
Experience developing and operating state-of-the-art high power (>1MW) power electronics test systems
Understanding of electrical and thermal design aspects for power electronics systems
Experience designing and testing power electronic systems through product validation
Experience with instrumentation and measurement of power converters
Demonstrated project leadership capability
Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives
Effective technical documentation skills
Effective communication and presentation skills
Proven interpersonal and leadership skills
Advanced Technology Degree
Understanding of electrical and thermal design aspects for power electronics systems
Familiarity with IEC, UL, and CSA regulatory standards
Familiarity with NFPA 70 and 70E and Arc Flash analysis (EasyPower or SKM) and testing
Familiarity with low & medium voltage insulation systems-partial discharge theory and testing methods.
Working knowledge of low & high voltage electrical distribution, power conversion and control system design.
