As a Cook, you'll play a crucial role in promoting the well-being of our clients through delicious and healthy meals.

In this position, you'll be responsible for preparing and serving meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines. You'll maintain a clean and organized kitchen, follow food safety protocols, and contribute to menu planning. Your ability to work collaboratively with a team and adapt to changing needs will be essential in this dynamic role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines

  • Follow USDA guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions as needed

  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, dishes, and work areas

  • Record and monitor food temperatures, refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher logs

  • Minimize food waste by properly utilizing leftovers within mandated timeframes

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments to meet client needs

  • Assist with inventory management and communicate supply needs to the manager

  • Prepare food for special events as requested

  • Maintain accurate records of menu substitutions and provide input on menu planning

  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and security protocols

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of one year of employment history

  • Basic understanding of nutrition is beneficial

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must provide evidence of being free from infectious and contagious diseases, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check

  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance required

  • Must complete New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment

  • All training requirements, including Relias, must be completed at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter

  • Successful completion of First Aid training is required

  • Must complete ServSafe Course

  • Must obtain Hepatitis A vaccination prior to handling food products (required for all St. Louis area staff)

  • Physical ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and perform repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move around the kitchen as needed
